The SKS is a Russian semi-automatic carbine with a ten-round box magazine that is fed from a stripper clip. It was widely exported and produced by the former Eastern Bloc nations.

Inarguably the most widley proliferated and well known automatic rifle in the world, the AK-47 has been in use around the globe since 1949. Its cheap price, ease of use, and reliability making it hugely popular among irregular forces and conventional militaries alike. Its power and limited accuracy make it most effective in short to medium-range encounters.

Support Weapons

The PKM is a gas-operated, belt-fed general purpose machine gun (GPMG). Although heavy in size, it can offer powerful and accurate support fire for ground soldiers at ranges up to 1000m meters. It is available in limited numbers to insurgent forces.

Precision Rifles

Dragunov SVD

The SVD was designed to offer medium-range precision fire for regular infantry squads, extending their effective combat range -- making the rifle one of the first examples of a designated marksman's weapon. For insurgent forces, it was originally used to hunt animals, but is now used to hunt the enemy. While not as accurate as a bolt-action rifle, its semi-automatic fire capability allows for fast engagement of multiple targets, and quick "second shots" in the event that the first misses or does not kill the target.

Heavy Weapons

The RPG-7 is a widely popular anti-tank grenade launcher used world-over by conventional and irregular military units. It is cheap and easily available, and although its effectiveness against modern tanks is arguable, it is accurate over fairly long ranges and is capable of considerable damage to armored targets. It remains a strong threat to infantry and vehicles alike.

SA-7 Grail

The SA-7 is shoulder-fired, man-portable air-defence system (MANPADS), capable of guided surface-to-air missile (SAM) fire. It is used to eliminate various airborne targets, although helicopter engagements are most common due to their slow movement compared to jets. It is available in very limited amounts to insurgents.

Insurgent Equipment

Molotov Cocktail

Molotov cocktails are crude incendiary devices which are easy to make. Lethal and effective, they engulf their target and the surrounding area in flames.

The Molotov Cocktail currently is using placeholder graphics, and it looks like a red smoke grenade. This will be replaced in a future version of Project Reality

Used since the dawn of man, they may not be sophisticated or very effective, but throw enough stones at a mans skull and he will eventually go down. These are used in desperate circumstances and in times of rioting. In Project Reality Civilians can use these to pester the Coalition forces, however it wont be easy to take out a healthy target with just stones.

Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

IEDs are a very destructive explosive carried by Insurgent Ambushers. The best places to place such weapons are on the ground near a road or intersection. Concealing these explosives under rubble or rocks is best to ensure your target does not notice the device. IEDs no longer stick to objects such as vehicles or buildings. Bomb Cars are still present on Insurgency maps but you cannot create your own now by strapping an IED on it. IEDs are remotely detonated by a cell phone. The resulting explosion is VERY large and is best used as a roadside bomb. IEDs can be detonated instantly after placing it making them useful in desperate suicide tactics. A favorite tactic in Project Reality is to get a Civilian to put a field dressing somewhere obvious, or an insurgent to place some ammo. Hide an IED nearby (in some garbage or a bush) and watch and wait. You'll be surprised how often this works for you :)
